The WGP type drum gear coupling with brake disc is a flexible power transmission component specifically designed to match disc brake systems. It is suitable for industrial applications that require reliable braking response and stable torque transmission. Structurally, the coupling features a symmetrical and compact configuration, consisting of a left hub, right hub, sleeve, brake disc, and connecting flange. The left hub is machined with crowned external teeth at its end, which precisely mesh with the internal teeth of the sleeve to ensure smooth and stable torque transmission. The right hub is connected to the sleeve through a flange secured by high-strength bolts, while the brake disc is firmly clamped between the flange and the sleeve, forming a rigid connection with the right hub. This structural arrangement allows braking torque to be directly transmitted through the right hub, reducing the impact of braking forces on the gear meshing area and helping maintain stable tooth contact conditions.
From a performance perspective, the crowned tooth design is a defining feature of this coupling. The external teeth are machined with a spherical profile whose center coincides with the gear axis. The tooth thickness gradually decreases toward both sides, and larger backlash is provided between mating teeth. This configuration enables the coupling to function as a double-articulated flexible transmission element with strong angular, axial, and radial misalignment compensation capabilities. When relative shaft displacement occurs due to installation errors, thermal expansion, foundation settlement, or load fluctuations, the crowned tooth surface helps redistribute the contact area along the tooth width, reducing localized contact stress and improving transmission smoothness. Additionally, the optimized load transmission path contributes to vibration reduction and enhances the coordinated operation of the brake disc and the overall drive system. This type of coupling is widely used in metallurgy, lifting and conveying equipment, mining machinery, and other heavy-duty applications requiring disc brake integration.
